Why no outrage

People threw eggs and bottles of water at the building. A firework launched at Portland City Hall on Oct. Demonstrators then marched to City Hall, where the graffiti continued. People tore down the American flag from the City Hall flagpole and burned it on the front door of the building.

Smaller bonfires were set on Southwest 4th Avenue facing City Hall, where newspaper boxes were used as barricades in the middle of the street. By 11 pm, most of the crowd had dispersed on own.

What I learned was both shocking and disappointing. Here is what we learned: Within the past two months there have been over 17, applications for humanitarian parole filed with the USCIS.

While there is an option to request a fee waiver, almost all applications filed with a fee waiver have been rejected by the USCIS. Since Sept. Since that same date, USCIS has processed "a handful of applications" for Afghan nationals displaced in a third country.

USCIS is expected to soon announce its plans to adjudicate those applications that remain pending, with priority given to individuals who are not physically in Afghanistan. The rationale for this decision is that third-country nationals would be able to obtain the required travel permission in the form of a visa at a U. It is unclear if visas will be issued to displaced Afghan nationals who are not in possession of a valid passport.

In the meantime, people are dying. That would be the humanitarian thing to do. More from Star Tribune. Politics Court temporarily delays release of Trump's Jan. I understand this because whites see Blackness as the antithesis of their whiteness and corresponding superiority. White supremacy thrives primarily off of Black dehumanization. You cannot talk about race without discussing whiteness and Blackness, nor should you. However, Asian Americans need to be cemented in their identity as people of color, because we cannot continue to be bystanders to hate against us or our Black, indigenous, people of color BIPOC peers.

We have to insert ourselves into the racial dialogue— not to make it all about Asians, but to use our identities to fight with our BIPOC siblings against racism. We cannot afford to be apathetic to this violence and erasure.

Be angry that Angelo Quinto was murdered. Be angry that his Asianness was not deemed newsworthy. And be angry that this happens to Black folx unceasingly. I am still very angry for so many different reasons. And to be honest, I am also angry at myself.

I say this reluctantly, but I had assumed that Quinto was Latino because of his Hispanic-sounding name. First, Asia, like many other parts of the world, has a long history of white colonialism.
