Why show respect
How do we genuinely show respect for someone who in our opinion, at least is so wrong about so many things? We love anyway. Not in spite of our differences. Not ignoring them either. But we love anyway because in our differences, in stepping toward others, in listening to them and respecting them for who they are without trying to change them, we come closer to creating the more beautiful world.
The change we so desperately long for in this world is possible, but we have to stop waiting for everybody else to show respect for one another, and start leading by example. A sure way to shut down a conversation before it ever gets started is to express judgment or condescension. But if you are willing to listen, to genuinely hear the other person, conversations take place.
Relationships grow. If your goal is to genuinely show respect to others — even those with whom you disagree — treat each person you encounter with the love and dignity they deserve. Listen to them—not to change their mind, but to learn more about who they are.
This will make them feel respected and open more doors to peace than you can imagine. Every human being is valuable, regardless of their opinions or worldview.
Learn to view everyone you encounter through the lens of love, and then look for ways the two of you can connect on a deeper level. Perhaps the only thing you have in common is that you both have the same number of children, or a love for art, or you like a certain sport or food. As your relationship grows and deepens, you might find you are ready for a more open discussion about your differences and how you each came to believe and live the way you do.
With the rise of social media, listening has almost become a lost art. We hear people speaking, but are we really listening? Or are we just thinking about what we will say next? Stop thinking about your argument or if you agree or not and instead really focus on what the other person is saying.
Pay attention to their emotions and their tone. But it often does. One of the characteristics of a civil society is the showing of respect to fellow citizens.
The conviction that other members of a family, a town, a city, a nation, or a region of the world are worthy of respect. Its goal was to grant status worthy of respect to all human beings everywhere. No human being is exempt. Showing respect for human life and human beings is fundamental to a civil society and civil world. When we respect others, it affirms their right to respect and their worthiness of respect. On the other hand, when we withhold respect from others, we imply they are unworthy of it.
This can trigger a decline that is exceedingly difficult to arrest and end. Once it is generally believed that a certain race or ethnic group or nationality or skin color or gender or age is unworthy of respect, the flood gates open for abuse. The natural and logical outcome of the removal of respect from particular classes is first rejection, then discrimination, then abuse, and ultimately genocide.
It starts with a lack of respect. When someone is living in a way that brings them recognition, honor, and respect, it encourages their living that way. Not always, but usually. Whether we wish that behavior worthy of respect would be common without encouragement misses the point. There should be serious reluctance to maintain a relationship that does not offer respect. If a relationship lacks respect, it is almost certainly an unhealthy one. Toxic relationships nearly always have a lack of respect as a common element.
Meaningful, healthy, and mutually-beneficial relationships show mutual respect. The history of the struggle for civil rights throughout the world is the struggle to win respect from others. Respect for human beings entails the granting, preserving, and protection of these rights. Without respect, these rights will be missing.
And if these rights are missing, respect will be missing too. They exist together. Everyone is due respect by virtue of being a human being. Everyone wants respect. Everyone should show respect. The conviction that different individuals from a family, a town, a city, a country, or an area of the world are deserving of regard.
Its objective was to give status deserving of respect to all individuals all over. No individual is excluded. Practicing respect for human life and individuals is central to a common society and common world. Alongside, respect and regard certify those deserving of regard. At the point when we regard others, it attests their entitlement to regard and their value of regard. Then again, when we retain regard from others, we infer they are dishonorable of it.
This can trigger a decay that is hard to capture and end. When it is, for the most part, accepted that a specific race or ethnic gathering or identity or skin shading or sex or age is disgraceful of regard, the conduits open for misuse. The normal and coherent result of the expulsion of respect from specific classes is the first dismissal, at that point separation, misuse, and at last slaughter.
